West Virginia's three-month Energy Star sales tax holiday is underway

Louisiana guns tax-free this weekend

Louisiana's second annual Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday is this weekend.

It kicked off just after the stroke of midnight today, Friday, Sept. 3, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 5.

During these three days, no state or local sales taxes will be collected on eligible items purchased for individual, not business, use. This includes:

  • Accessories designed to be used for hunting.
  • Shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers or other handguns.
  • Ammunition intended to be fired from a gun or firearm.
  • Animal feed for consumption by game which can be legally hunted.
  • Apparel such as safety gear, camouflage clothing, jackets, hats, gloves, mittens, face masks and thermal underwear for use while hunting.
  • Off-road vehicles such as all terrain vehicles designed for hunting.

The vehicle exemption does not apply to golf carts, bikes, motorcycles, tractors or motor vehicles which may be legally driven on highways.

And sorry, if you've been waiting to bring home a new retriever, you'll still owe tax on the purchase of your hunting dog.

The Louisiana Department of Revenue has posted a complete list of what's eligible for the sales tax break.
