A tax lawyer's 'Date Night'
South Dakota tax tidbit: announcing convicted tax cheats

Reminder of other April 15 tax tasks

April_15_calendar_border I'm still slogging through my own taxes -- April Resolution: Put all my 2010 info on a spreadsheet that keeps a running total of income, expenses, mileage, etc.! -- but I wanted to take a break and remind y'all of some other looming tax deadlines.

As a self-employed person, I pay estimated taxes. If you make these four extra tax payments a year, don't forget that the first 1040-ES of 2010 is also due April 15.

If you didn't file a return in 2006 and think you might be due a refund from that tax year, this Thursday also is the last day you can submit that prior year 1040.

Don't forget your state returns. Most of those revenue offices that collect income taxes follow the April IRS due date.

Finally, any home shoppers hoping to cash in on the $8,000 first-time or the $6,500 move-up homebuyer credits better get a move on. You must have a contract for your primary residence purchase signed by April 30.

OK. Break is over. Back to my taxes!
