Tax Calendar

  • Welcome to Tax Season 2010. The countdown to April 15 is underway!

  • How much tax time remains?
  • Each month you'll find tax dates, tips and moves to make between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31
so you can save tax money
    all year-round.

    monthly tax moves

  • March 1: If you're a farmer or fisherman and you did not make estimated tax payments for 2009, you can avoid penalties by filing your tax return and paying any tax due today.

March 5: Early spring cleaning -- Consider getting rid of all the junk that piled up over the winter. Some of it might make for welcome charitable donations. Just be sure the items meet the IRS "good " standard. And don't forget to get that receipt!

Speaking of receipts, if you donated to Haiti earthquake relief efforts via text message, make sure you got your receipt from the Red Cross or other participating charity. The IRS says it also will accept your cell phone's billing statement. And remember, you can count donations made by Feb. 28 as deductions on your 2009 returns.

March 10: Does your job include tips? If so and you received $20 in tips in February, use Form 4070 to report them today to your employer.

March 15: The ides of March is also, the deadline for calendar-year corporations to file 2009 tax returns.

March 17: Happy St. Patrick's Day! Don't depend on lucky charms to get you through the filings season. Start your first draft of your IRS return. That way, you'll have plenty of time to make sure you don't miss any of the tax saving possibilities detailed in our Daily Tax Tips.

March 23: Things are finally warming up, so it's time to check out your air conditioner. If you got a new energy-efficient one in 2009, be sure to claim the home improvement tax credit, which could save you as much as $1,500.

If you didn't make any energy upgrades to your house last year, don't despair. This tax break is available for 2010, too.

March 30: Still waiting for your tax refund? Track it down with the IRS' online refund locater, Where's My Refund?

Small Business Tax Calendar -- March: Important filing, deposit and record keeping dates your company needs to know.

    Rocking Around Austin!

    • Joe Ely -

      Joe Ely: Letter to Laredo
      opening act
      The Band of Heathens
      at historic
      Gruene Hall, Sept. 30, 2006.

When we moved back to Texas in 2005, the Lone Star State's impressive and eclectic music was a major consideration. So Austin, the Live Music Capital of the World, was really our only choice. We try to get to as many shows as we can, like every Joe Ely performance! But we also enjoy other musicians. Click here to see the full, and continually updated, list.
